Pastor Colbert is a real man who loves God’s people. He approaches things in a low stress uncomplicated way. Pastor Colbert preaches that salvation should not be complicated. Scripture says “for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.” Pastor believes it’s best to create an atmosphere for people to call on Jesus for salvation. He is always saying, “Don’t make it complicated”. It’s not hard to follow a leader who wants to remove barriers to worship in order for people to experience God. Pastor has a great view on worship; he thinks everybody should feel the Spirit. He transformed our service from strict traditional to a perfect mix of contemporary and tradition, everybody gets something. Pastor Colbert is a visionary, he changed our worship style, and he has made a difference in the community.

Pastor Colbert had a vision for Bethel to be a community church that serves. It is because of a servant’s heart our church has grown. We are living the vision. He believes it’s not about recognition, but about how much we serve. His vision is not complicated, feed the hungry, teach our children, equip the saints, preach a relevant word, and save souls. Some people look for mega churches, but they can’t have a real relationship with the pastor. Pastor Colbert has said, “Bethel has a mega church feel with a small church appeal”. We may not be a mega church, but Pastor Colbert gives mega love.

We believe that he loves us like his own wife and kids. He is a family man, married to first lady Pam for 34 years; they are a great ministry team. It’s good to have a first lady that works as hard as pastor. Our pastor is prepared to lead us into the future. He received a Degree in Business Management from The Fort Valley State University. He completed four years of study through the Macon Conference Board of Examiners. In 2002 he received his Deaconate Orders, and ordained Itinerate Elder in 2004. Pastor Colbert was appointed to serve on the Macon Conference Board of Examiner as an Instructor in Worship, and Methodist Polity, he also served as Treasurer. Pastor Colbert was named pastor of the year in 2013 among preachers in the Macon South District. The local Branch NAACP honored Pastor Colbert and Bethel with the community achievement award for churches in 2012. In 2011, Pastor Colbert was recognized by the Sixth Episcopal District with the Living Legacy Award for his work on the local level. In 2009 he delivered the Annual Conference opening sermon. In 2019 he preached the annual sermon for the Women’s Missionary Society. His pastorate includes Gordon Chapel AME from 2004 to 2009, and in May 2009 he was appointed to serve here at Bethel, he calls us the “Best Church in the Universe”. Pastor Colbert also served as pastor at Mount Hope AME Church in 2019 until a permanent pastor was assigned. He was known as “One Pastor at two Great Churches.”
His ministerial affiliation includes the Bellevue – Hillcrest Ministers Association, and the Evangelical Ministerial Alliance which he serves as Treasurer. Besides his clergy credentials, he is a retired Family Housing Counselor with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs where he administered an annual contribution of $2,000,000,000 to local communities for rental assistance.
